Blantyre youth teams to appoint new committee Blantyre U-20 football teams will on Sunday appoint new officials for Blantyre Youth Football Committee.The elections are expected to take place at Blantyre Youth Centre in the city.Former Malawi national football team and Nyasa Big Bullets midfielder Chancy Gondwe, continental holdings company accountant Sangwani Msofi, and director of Kabula Lodge Paul Lawrence are among the candidates vying for positions in the committee.They handed in their nominations to Southern Region Youth Football Committee on Monday.Comittess to raise the football game for lads.Gondwe is likely to compete for the position of chairperson of the committee, Msofi is contesting for the position of treasure while Lawrence is vying for the post of vice chairperson.In an interview, Msofi said he is contesting to help improve youth football in the city.“There was a time when I would go around primary schools and see a lot of tournaments going on but now the youths only compete in the Presidential Cup and the FMB League,” he said. According to Msofi, football standards are generally going down not because there are no facilities but because the grassroots are missing hence the need to correct the situation.On his part, Lawrence promised to work with other officials to ensure youth football progresses.“I want teams to be disciplined by making sure that all registration cards and contracts are well organised,” he said.
