JOHANNESBURG – Protesters in Hopefield, in the south of Johannesburg, say there will be no voter registration this weekend. They say President Jacob Zuma himself must come to the informal settlement to tell them when they will get their RDP houses before they will allow any voter registration to take place. Scores of police have been deployed in the area to calm the tense situation. Protesters have been burning tyres near a tent erected by the IEC and some have hurled insults at officials and the police. Another group of protesters, who are hiding in the nearby hills, are throwing stones at the police. No injuries or arrests have been reported yet. -
